WWE Friday Night Smackdown 4/2/2021

Edge came out to talk to start us off. He said he didn't know why he expected to make it to Mania without any speed bumps. Edge thought him teaming with Daniel Bryan at Fastlane was more interesting than Daniel fightihg Roman and he said he was too busy thinking about Roman to notice DB.

Edge admitted he got outplayed by DB. Edge said he finally woke up last week when he attacked DB and Roman. He said he is a hall of famer and is finally the Rated R Superstar again. Edge said he almost hit a conchairto last week and next time, he won't hestitate to.

They announce Daniel Bryan vs Jey Uso in a street fight tonight. That's the 3rd time we've seen that one in the last few months.

Edge is walking around backstage. Kayla Braxton interviews him and talks about Jey possibly taking out Bryan tonight. Edge said he doesn't feel bad if that happens.

Chad Gable is in the ring with Otis. He says he made Otis a force of nature and found his inner alpha. Chad said the Alpha Academy is peaking at the right time and will win the SD Tag Titles next week "for the Academy".

Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, Otis and Chad Gable vs Rey Mysterio, Dominic and The Street Profits

DZ and RR do an inset promo. They said they are defending in a 4 way next week and the other teams aren't on their level. They said they will get the job done tonight. In an inset, Rey and Dominic put each other over and said they want the tag titles. The Profits do an inset where they called Otis and Gable, Butterbean and Napoleon. They said they want the smoke.

Dom hits a stiff swinging DDT on DZ to start. Multiple people get put outside then Rey hits la silla on Roode and Dom plancha's DZ. Ford then does a flip dive on Otis and Gable. We go to break and return with Dawkings getting the hot tag and hitting a nice back elbow. Dawkins hits a wild exploder on DZ then really flips Gable on a more upright exploder.

Otis sledgehammers Dawkins for 2 and Dawkins gets worked over for a bit. Otis hits a nice clothesline and both go down and tag out. Ford hits a bunch of offense and Gable takes a bump when he is flipped in. Ford headsprings into a standing moonsault on Gable. Roode trips Rey then gets thrown into the rails. Ford hits a high enzugiri on Gable and Gable hits the back roll german suplex. Otis then splashes Ford off the 2nd rope for the win. This was a little rushed but these guys work each other every week and it's always good. This was no exception.

Pearce and Sonya Deville are talking in the back. Paul Heyman comes up to them and says Roman asked him to make it so Jey can be stripped of liability for tonight's match. Paul said Jey might end his career. Pearce goes to say something but Sonya interrupts and said he makes a good point. I'll say it now and I'm sure I will say it again later - if it's a street fight with no dq's, Roman and Edge would be idiots not to come down and beat the crap out of Daniel Bryan so he doesn't get to Mania.

Seth Rollins comes out in a purple tye dye suit. We go to break and return. Graves and Cesaro join him when we return. They argue to start. Cesaro says this is the biggest match of his career. He said most of Seth's critiques might be true, but he can't and won't fail. He said there is something different this time aorund and starts to sing about the giant swing.

Seth said he is unbeatable this time of year and talked about some of the stuff he had done at Mania with comparisons to Hulk, Rock and others. Cesaro said he knows he can beat Seth at Mania, but Seth said he is unshakeable. Cesaro said maybe that's true, but he isn't unswingable. Seth kicks out Graves and said he will embarrass Cesaro at Mania. He said Cesaro keeps provoking him and wants to fight him now. Cesaro tells him to take a swing but Seth doesn't.  

Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler and Reginald walk past Carmella in the back. Nia said "you didn't treat my guy very well, did you?" and kept walking to end the segment.

Shayna Baszler vs Natalya with Tamina

Reginald and Nia Jax are at the commentary booth. They trade pin attempts and Natalya wins with a schoolboy in less than a minute. Nia nails Natalya, then Tamina steps in and gets beaten up. Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan then attacked Nia and Shayna. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke then came in then Lana and Naomi got involved too. Lana crossbodied shayna from the top and Naomi did the same to Nia. Tamina came in and her and Natalya hit the hart attack and were the last team standing in this brawl.

Billie Kay went up to Carmella in the back with her resume. Oh man, Billie as Carmella's new wine taster would be great.

Sami Zayna welcomed Logan Paul in a limo in the back. Sami has a gold and purple shiny suit.

We went to break and returned with Sami hyping up his release. He welcomed Logan Paul, who then came out. Sami was doing wild celebration dances for this. Logan said he was excited to be here and said they were "fast becoming friends". He then invited him to be his guest at Wrestlemania, which he accepted.

Sami's trailer was rated "T" for Truth. It showed clips of Sami's various shenanigans from the last few months but didn't tell us too much more. Sami thought it was a masterpiece and asked Logan what he thought. Logan said it was a lot to take in. Logan said Kevin Owens approached him and told him he had been acting weird and neurotic. Sami reminded him that he was here to help him. Sami said he didn't care what Kevin thought, but what Logan thought. Kevin then came out of nowhere and hit Sami with a stunner. Logan didn't know what to say and the segment ended.

Pearce and Sonya talked in the back with Edge. Edge said they made the worst decision in WWE. He said he liked the street fight call for tonight though and said he would be on commentary for it.

Owens was interviewed in the back. He said he was sending Sami a message and to anyone that he can stun anyone at any time. Sami then jumped him and yelled at him. Sami then ran for it.

Bianca was interviewed. She said it took her slapping the soul out of Sasha to see the real Sasha. She said she wanted the ruthless Sasha so there are noe excuses. She said she hadn't forgotten about Carmella and blamed her for the Reginald issues. She said she's not looking past Carmella, but is looking through Carmella.

Carmella vs Bianca Belair

I think Carmella got a new entrance here while Graves went nuts for it. Carmella danced with Bianca's entrance and jumped her as she entered. Carmella threw her into the barricades and the steps.

We went to break and returned with Carmella in control. Carmella headscissored her over the top then hurricanrana'd her. Carmella tied up Bianca's hair in the ropes then stomped on her. Bianca untied herself and hit a lariat. Bianca went for her handspring moonsault but got nothing then Carmella superkicked her. Bianca then hit the kiss of death to win. Not bad at all but it was very short.

Sasha then jumped on Bianca but let off. Bianca pointed towards the Mania sign and said "not today". Sasha then backed off.

Roman was seen talking to Jey in the back.

King Corbin talked in the back. He said he has been shown disrespect on Smackdown. He said he realized it was his time when he attacked Drew. He said he will take out Drew then Bobby at Mania, then everyone will be forced to bow down to the king.

Apollo Crews did a promo. He said he will not stand for the disrespect he got from Big E. He said they will have a "Nigerian drumfight". He said there will be no rules, just a beating so loud it sounds like a drum. He made the official challenge and said his ancestors will drum along to the sound of him beating on Big E.

Paul Heyman went up to Edge. He said he agreed that DB got involved when he shouldn't have. Paul said a triple threat hurts Edge and Roman's chances. Edge told Paul he didn't know what Paul had planned, but Edge said he was going out there for commentary. Why? He just talked about how DB screwed his way into this and now is seemingly turning down a chance to get him out.

Street Fight - Jey Uso vs Daniel Bryan

Edge is on commentary here. DB goes right in and they start fighting. DB gets thrown out early and both go into the barricade. Jey beats up DB near Edge and Edge tells Jey to get his eyes off him while talking to  DB goes for a tope but meets a chair from Jey instead.

Jey hits DB with the chair multiple times and Jey tries to pillmanize DB's ankle with the chair but misses. DB then comes back with chair shots. Jey rolls out and Roman Reigns comes down with a chair that Heyman is pushing. We go to break.

Back from break with DB kicking Jey in the chest. He then gets caught with a superkick and is put head first into a chair inbetween the buckles. Jey grabs a chain from under the ring and clotheslines DB with it. He then punches him with it wrapped around his fist. Jey hits a top rope frogsplash but DB kicks out as Edge says it was "pure instinct".

Jey throws Bryan into the steps. Edge asks if he should fear any man and Jey interjects and says he should. They fight on the bottom section of the steps and Jey is superplexed off of it. DB hits more chair shots to the back and bangs Jey's head off the announce table while he looks at Edge.

DB hits the missile dropkick off the top. DB puts a chain around his fist and hits Jey with it then hits an elbow flurry to the head. DB then puts the crossface on Jey and Jey taps as he did the last 2 or 3 times they fought. DB then hit a running knee on Edge and sent him into the post. Edge took more shots off the post.

DB then goes after Reigns. Reigns throws a chair at him and misses then DB puts the crossface on him. Pearce and the officials pulled DB off of Roman. DB posed to close the show.

I liked the match and segment but Edge, Heyman and Roman are total boneheads for not getting involved when there was no reason not to. That part didn't make any sense.

Overall thoughts: Like usual, Smackdown was low on the wrestling. The matches we did get though were good so it a decent show overall.
